Nadia Comaneci – Five Times Olympic Gold Medalist, Born in 1961

A multiple-time (five to be exact) Olympic gold medalist, Nadia Comaneci, is a retired gymnast responsible for popularizing the sport around the globe. The talented Nadia became the first gymnast at the Olympic Games to receive a perfect 10.0 score. Nadia officially entered retirement in 1984 and later got married to fellow gymnast and another gold medalist, Bart Conner. The ceremony was held in Bucharest and was televised throughout the country. The couple welcomed a son named Dylan after ten years of marriage. An area in the Olympic Park in Montreal, Canada was renamed “Place Nadia Comaneci“ in her honor in 2017.
