There are only a handful of people who are excused to wear and can rock sunglasses in indoor events and guest appearances.
One of which is Anna Wintour, the infamous editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, who didn’t bother to remove her sunnies even if she was talking to Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II during last year’s London Fashion Week – she earned flak for this, but her fans would know that she really doesn’t take them off during fashion shows.
But there’s one contender that’s somehow aiming to dethrone the journalist, “The View” host Joy Behar.
Joy Behar’s Vision
The 76-year-old recently showed up at the ABC daytime talk show sporting a Gucci cat-eyed sunglasses, but this wasn’t simply a style change, nor was it just because she felt like copying Anna. Joy revealed that she just had cataract surgery on her left eye the day before the shoot and as per doctors’ advice, she needed to keep them on to protect her recovering eyes.
According to Mayo Clinic, cataract surgery is the removal of the lens of the eyes and then replacing these with artificial ones.
Joy further explained that she sees things in sepia mode in her right eye, while with her left, just white. She also revealed that she is coming back to the doctor to have the other peeper done, which means that we will likely see her wearing shades for quite some time.

When you look into a person’s eyes, you’ll see that the lens is clear. But a person who has cataract will have cloudy lens, thereby affecting the vision of the patient. It was said to be the number one cause of vision loss and is actually common among older people.
While this is the case, the rising number of those undergoing cataract surgeries is rising too and what’s more alarming is that the median age of patient is dropping.

It is also touted as one of the most effective and safest among all surgeries. Joy herself recommends the process but it is always best to talk to your doctor about it. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, there is a 1 to 4 percent chance of developing serious complications.
Other Advantages
Apart from having a better vision, cataract surgery comes with a lot of benefits. An NCBI study in 2012 looked at the effect of the procedure in reducing vehicle crashes and showed that indeed, there had been a decline.
Another research found that there was also a decrease in the rate of falls of women over 70. But that’s not all, a study found that there were also fewer reports of depression and anxiety after a cataract surgery, which was linked with a boost in confidence after the operation.
